FF7PC Hand Patch Readme --- LOG Dates are mm.dd/year. Version 01.5: 04.20/2004 -Add Scarlet to the list of models that don't look quite right. Sorry, I can't fix her (unless someone can model some female hands for me... hint hint ;) -Rude's fingers didn't match his skin color. Fixed. -The model of Cloud wearing a Parachute had backwards hands. Fixed. -Characters in the World Map now have hands. -The following animations have been altered: --Cloud hitting a button (it now looks more like he's pressing it) --Cloud having a Mental Attack (looks a little less whacked) --and a bunch more! Version 01: 03.25/2004 -First released. INSTALLATION The only available version right now is a LGP Tools Patch (since self-extractors don't seem to be working for everyone...) To install it: 1) Extract handPatchFieldV015.ffpatch and handPatchWorldMapV015.ffpatch to your [ff7 directory]\data\ folder 2) Using ficedula's LGP Tools version 1.55 or later, select "Apply patch" from the toolbar (Tools > Patches > Apply Patch.) and select handPatchFieldV015.ffpatch. Then do the same with handPatchWorldMapV015.ffpatch. That's all! WHAT IT DOES This patch makes the hands of most the field models (and now World Map too) look a little bit better. Still, don't expect to be wowed or anything... The improvement is really just that their hands aren't cubes anymore. HOW IT WORKS This is now 2 patches. Field Patch: handPatchFieldV015.ffpatch The main patch replaces 401 out of about 430 hands in char.lgp. I took two slightly better looking hand files that were already in the game, made copies of them for each hand in char.lgp, and then edited their vertex-coloring with a hex editor to make their colors correspond to the originals. I've also edited 34 animations to make them look better with the patch. Cloud should now press Elevator buttons correctly, and shouldn't shove his hands through his shoulders or anything. World Patch: handPatchWorldMapV015.ffpatch Similar to the above, except it replaces the 3 pairs of hands in world_us.lgp. NOTES The patch isn't quite complete, yet. I can't edit certain models, like Barret, that have special hand models, so I've left them alone. In Barret's case, one of his hands is a lot bigger, and the other's a gun. Certain other hands have additional 3D data (like Cloud holding his Buster Sword.) I can't edit those, because I know nothing about 3D modelling. If anyone wants to take a crack at it, you probably already know enough to get started. About the only way I can help is if you need a list of the models I couldn't alter. Heck, while I'm at it, if someone wants to make a better looking pair of hands, but doesn't want to add them into the game yourself, I'm a perfectly willing workhorse. Just let me know. Also, even though the hands have been added in, certain things might actually look *worse* now. Certain characters (kids, fat people) might have hands that aren't quite in proportion--I haven't checked every model. There may be situtations where a character holds something that is not normally attached in the model data. In such a case, the object may now appear to be floating or impaling their hand or something. You probably won't be able to tell, though, because of camera distance in most scenes. Also, some animations might look out of place now, although I think I've fixed the worst offenders. Well, at least the ones involving Cloud... If you spot a bad animation, please inform me.
